Verb-copying construction

When a verb takes both an object and a degree, duration, or frequency complement, Mandarin often repeats the verb after its object. The copied verb creates a clean place for 得, 了, or the complement phrase.

Structure

Subject + Verb + Object + Verb + 得 + Complement

Subject + Verb + Object + Verb + 了 + Duration / Frequency
